Legend

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful princess, Toi-Shu. Her palace scented with rose perfume was full of glittering hand-painted silks. The king loved his daughter very much and caring about her future, he chose a husband for her- a very rich prince from neighbouring kingdom. But as it usually happens, it was not the prince, who captured her heart, but a common poor gardener. The princess fell in love with his blue eyes and magnificent voice. Every single day she was visiting the garden near her palace and listening to  beautiful songs of her beloved Geb-Set. One afternoon princess Toi-Shu walked up very quietly to her sweetheart and dared to steal a kiss from him.  From that day on, the gardener, completely enchanted with the princess, sang seranades every evening at her window. The beloved were meeting secretly and lavishing kisses on each other.  They got engaged, putting wooden carved rings on their fingers. Allegedly nobody would ever hear or write about their love, but for one evil minister of scholarship, Tenemu, who   accidentally saw the couple and immediately informed the king. The angry king condemned Toi-Shu for closing in a tower, and ordered to throw the gardener down from a high rock. On the day of execution the princess implored Teoris, Goddess of Red River  to save her fiancee. Teoris fulfilled her wish and changed Geb-Set into a cat. The gardener in cat’s body still had intensively blue eyes, weather-beaten dark face and unforgettable voice. In this form  Geb-Set visited his princess locked in the tower, valiantly carrying his engagement ring on hooked tail. This marvellous and elegant cat stayed with his beloved for ever. Every day he sang serenades and nestled against the princess. He became a symbol of faith and love. (KOT Magazine No 10, June 2006)
